PURE Zill & Drum Workshop
LOCATION: Avanti Dance Studio in College Park (just north of downtown
O-town) 1828 Edgewater Drive Orlando, FL 32804
Darshan will teach PURE's exciting new meditation for zills!
Including clever combinations, exciting formations, and at least five
different rhythms on the finger cymbals, with a focus on intention and
meaningful movement.
The new PURE zill meditation is based on the concept of group
communication beyond language: a gesture, a sound, unison and
syncopation, outward and inward focus, the ancient and the modern, group
vision, the known and the unknown. Using rhythms such as a modified
masmoudi, hip hop baladi, cheftitelli, beledi/nawri, a Moroccan 6/8
double shimmy, good old triplets and a couple of handy bridges, we will
string together an intricate story in song and dance. All levels are
welcome: simple alternatives will be provided as will rhythm notations.
SCHEDULE:
10:30 am Doors open for Registration
11:00am-1:00pm Drum Workshop: Drummers!
Come together beforehand to learn the composition for
Communication; then feel free to join the dancers for the last
2 hours of the Dance portion and feel it all come together!
1-1:30 pm: Registration/Break
1:30pm– 3:30pm Dance Workshop (1st part - Dancers only)
3:30-4 pm: Snack/Rest break
4-6 pm: Dance Workshop Continues with Drummers!
(The dance workshop is meant to be taken all together for dancers)
Musicians: There is no limit to who and what we are asking for other
than an understanding of working with live dancers, basic musical
drumming rhythm and the willingness to learn more and give back to the
community!
Dancers: We ask for you to have the ability to understand basic dance
movement and the willingness to learn new forms of movement and
choreography to give back to the community!
WORKSHOP FEES
The cost of the Drum workshop is just $25; The Dance workshop is merely
$60.00. Both together just $75.00!
