I just finished filming with World Dance New York, my choreography offering for the Fantasy Bellydance Series, a Full Moon Blessing Ritual dance that I perform and then briefly teach, with a demo reel that dancers can follow along with! The DVD will be out end of February...

 

New Wednesday Workshop Series with the                           Dalia Carella Dance Collective!!!
 
Classes will be held at DTW - 219 W. 19th between 7th & 8th Ave., NYC
 
Dalia  - 11/7, 11/14, 11/21, 11/28 - 4 week series - $58, Drop-ins              $17 per class - 7-8:30pm.
 Veil work - Mystical, theatrical, and Near Eastern sensibilities.  Creative movement and music will be used to help create new approaches you can use in nightclubs, theaters, etc.

GENEVA BYBEE - It's all about Technique" – 2h
Drills, drills, drills. Improve your technique with simple movements, while expanding your views on layering. Utilizing the basic principles of Suhaila Salimpour's Format. This workshop will cater to the students involved to increase your personal practice.

DARSHAN - Contemporary Tribal Fusion – 1st part – 2h
Learn precision isolations, ancient and urban postures, unexpected moves, and options for expression in tribal fusion. Add intensity to the dance. Through drills and combos, explore the edges of modern and theatric fusion in belly dance. This class is for experienced fusion dancers, dancers of other styles and new dancers.

Saturday November 17th

PAULETTE REES-DENIS, GYPSY CARAVAN - Tribal Technique – 1st part – 4h
Posture. Slow/fast moves and cues with duets and triplets within a chorus structure. Listening to the music, playing zils, using the space, moving with a partner. Leading and following, organic cues,changing leaders.

GENEVA BYBEE - "Classy Fusion with Hip Hop Elements" – 2h
Drills will be learned with simple to complex layering focusing on posture. Combinations emphasizing slow and classy arm and hand movements, and funky footwork for quicker hip hop flared techniques. These combinations will be taught for improvisation to utilize American Tribal Style concepts.

Sunday November 18th

Fusion Textures with Darshan ~ Explore the current expansion in modern music for bellydance; drills, combinations, unexpected moves, and new archetypal images for a fresh approach to drum & bass, chaotic, spooky, cinematic, alternative, and industrial sounds.

GENEVA BYBEE - "Expanding Tribal Style Movements" – 2h
Tribal Core movements with be explored in a new way. The movements
will be drilled through dance to understand the technique from all directions.
Relatively simple layering concepts will be applied to allow your own dance
to flourish by ways of creativity, at least doubling your repertoire.

• 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Contemporary Tribal Fusion
Learn precision isolations, ancient and urban postures, unexpected moves, and options for expression in tribal fusion. Through drills and combos, explore the edges of modern and theatric fusion in belly dance. This class is for experienced fusion dancers, dancers of other styles and new dancers.
• 2 – 4 p.m. Belly Dance Fusion Integration
Learn combinations with variations in both Tribal and Egyptian/Oriental shades, translating between these two dance languages. Plus learn a world fusion combo applicable to either style. Practice conscious integration and distinction of your influences into and between your dance styles.

Sunday
• 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Body Awareness for Dancers
Flow through different types of movement, exploring the sensations of dance in the body and finding new ways to engage for a deeper dance experience. These will include exercises in turning, shimmying, weight transfer, body line, torso articulation, and powerful slow movement. Protecting the body from dance injury, including safe floor work, backbends and Turkish drops, will also be discussed.
• 2 – 4 p.m. Power Hips
Where is power found? Work with combinations and drills for greater control in the hips and torso. In dynamic moves -big and small, in different planes of control, in command of the weight transfer and footwork, in muscular and postural awareness, in level change and angle variation, in rhythm syncopation, fast and slow, when to hold back, using simplicity, staging, and more.
